Sedation Dentistry in Houston, TX

Bellaire Dental Sedation Options

To ensure your time in the dental chair is as comfortable and relaxing as possible, we offer sedation dentistry at our practice. Sedation dentistry is an excellent way for patients who have significant anxiety or fear when it comes to going to the dentist. At Memorial Park Dental Spa, we never want patients to avoid the dental treatments they need or desire because of fear. We offer a variety of comfortable, safe and effective options in sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry can help both young and old patients who are anxious about the dentist, have a hard time sitting still or have difficulty getting numb from local anesthetics. With sedation dentistry, you can take advantage of our full menu of advanced general, restorative and cosmetic dental procedures without discomfort or stress.

Sedation dentistry allows patients to undergo procedures without being aware of common anxiety triggers. Most patients find that they have no sense of time, smell or sound during their procedures, and they certainly do not feel pain. Sedation dentistry is a simple and relaxing way to experience dentistry.

Options in Sedation Dentistry

The best part about sedation dentistry is that you can choose the specific method that you are comfortable with. We offer multiple levels of sedation dentistry, depending on the patient’s unique needs and preferences. We never want you to be nervous about receiving sedation, as we are licensed by The American Dental Association and we are respectful and professional at all times.

There are three sedative states at that may be administered during your dental treatments: mild sedation, moderate sedation, and deep sedation.

Mild Sedation — Oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) are considered options in mild sedation. These are often used for patients with mild to moderate anxiety, longer procedures, or more complex situations. Mild sedation can be administered by taking a pill a few hours before your appointment (oral conscious sedation) or inhaling a colorless gas through a nosepiece (nitrous oxide). Patients remain awake and conscious throughout the entire procedure, but in a state of complete relaxation. Many patients prefer nitrous oxide inhalation because it wears off very quickly and they can drive themselves home. Nitrous oxide is commonly used for pediatric dental procedures.

Moderate Sedation — For patients with moderate dental anxiety and for those who need longer or more complex procedures, conscious sedation may be recommended. This typically requires the use of light IV sedation, but you will still remain awake during the procedure. It is recommended that patients who receive conscious sedation have someone accompany them to their appointment and drive them home, as it can take several hours for this sedative to wear off.

Deep Sedation — Deep sedation is reserved for patients who have moderate to severe dental anxiety. Patients receiving deep sedation go between consciousness and unconsciousness during their procedure and typically have no memory of the treatment performed. Deep sedation takes several hours to lose effect, so patients should avoid driving.

The Proof is in Our Patients

The best dentist in Houston. I came for my first cleaning and Beverly was AMAZING!!!! My prior cleanings at another dentist left me in pain, not at Memorial Park Dental. I also was fitted for a lower night guard, and it was the first time a night guard actually worked for me. All of the staff is great, even making a filling a decent experience. Love this place!

A friend of mine referred me to Dr Thomas a few years ago and I have been a very satisfied patient ever since. The staff are all very friendly, knowledgable, helpful and they make you feel very comfortable during your visit. The office decor is very inviting, modern, clean, organized and surpasses any other dental office I’ve been to in the past.

Love the office and staff. They will work with your schedule and try to make your appointments convient for you. The staff is very friendly each time we have come. It’s great to have an office know you and be concerned about what’s best for your health, and not just concerned for their business. After years of trying to find a great dentist…won’t be going anywhere else!!!
